Apple TV Support & User Guide

Everything you need to set up Autohop, find your way around, play audio and video, and keep your Apple TV in step with iPhone.

Get started

  1. Install Autohop on iPhone and Apple TV using the same Apple Account.
  2. On iPhone, enable iCloud Sync in Autohop and allow the initial upload to finish.
  3. Open Autohop on Apple TV. Keep the app open while its branded startup screen retrieves and prepares your library.
  4. When Home appears, the app is ready to navigate. Very large libraries can continue filling in artwork and older details afterwards.
Important: subscribe, unsubscribe and rank podcasts on iPhone. Apple TV consumes that phone-authored library and cannot change subscription membership.

Home and Up Next

Home is the fastest route back into listening. Continue Listening or Continue Watching appears when an episode has meaningful progress. During active playback, Now Playing replaces the duplicate resume card.

Using the episode menu

Move focus to an episode and open its ellipsis menu. Available actions can include Play, Play Next, Pin or Unpin, Episode Description and Archive. The current first item does not need Play Next.

Priority order

Up Next follows the Priority Stack created on iPhone. A pinned episode moves to the front across your devices; unpinning returns it to normal priority behaviour.

Library

Library contains the podcasts already in your iPhone Autohop library. Choose a show to browse its available episodes, then select an episode to view details or start playback. If a show is missing, confirm iCloud Sync and the subscription on iPhone, then choose Check for Updates in Apple TV Settings.

History

History presents up to 50 recently archived episodes from across your synced devices. It is designed as a quick route back to something you completed or archived. Starting an episode again does not silently subscribe to anything new.

Discover

Discover lets you browse popular podcasts and episodes by storefront, category and search. Open a show, read its information and stream an episode immediately.

Discover on Apple TV is browse-and-play only. To add a show permanently, open Autohop on iPhone and subscribe there.

Audio and video playback

Start or resume

Select an episode or use Play in its menu. Autohop applies saved library progress where available. Discover episodes use the default Discover Playback Speed selected in Settings.

Player controls

  • Play or pause.
  • Jump back 15 seconds or forward 30 seconds.
  • Choose playback speed.
  • Open the full, scrollable episode description.
  • Archive the episode when finished.

Video

A video episode opens into full-screen video when the media track is ready. If it needs to buffer, Autohop shows Preparing Playback. Returning to Home keeps the episode available through Now Playing.

How iCloud sync works

Autohop uses the private CloudKit database attached to your Apple Account. There is no Autohop account and no developer-operated sync relay.

Subscription membership and priority settings are authored on iPhone. Apple TV can send supported playback, history, archive and queue commands back through iCloud. The status badge reports whether content is updating, current or being shown from a recent cache.

Settings

The first control sets the default playback speed for episodes started from Discover. Everyday iCloud, Up Next, Now Playing and version information follows. Developer counters are kept lower on the page.

Prepare Full Diagnostic Export is intentionally the final item. Use it only when asked during troubleshooting; retrieve the prepared app container with Xcode from a connected Apple TV.

Troubleshooting

The library or Up Next looks old.

Leave both devices online, confirm they use the same Apple Account, then choose Check for Updates in Apple TV Settings.

Playback starts as audio for a video episode.

Wait for Preparing Playback to finish. If video does not appear, return Home and open Now Playing. Persistent cases should be reported with a diagnostic export.

My position has not appeared on iPhone.

Pause playback, allow a short iCloud interval, and avoid actively playing the same episode on both devices at once.

The first launch takes time.

The initial sync retrieves subscriptions, queue, history and episode details. The startup messages remain visible until the first usable screen is assembled; later launches use a local survival cache and are much faster.
